FFXis a high school level student film festival in Reno, Nevada.


The "X" in FFX is an annually changing theme and this year's categoryX is Paranormal Themed Short Films. The theme only applies to the Category X category. FFX also features contest categories of Short Film (any genre), Experimental Film, Music Video, Documentary Short, News Package, Animation/Animatic Short Films, and PSAs.


2026 marks the festival's 15th year, following up on successful Zombies, Superheroes, Sci-Fi, Silent Film, Classic Western, Film Noir, Literary Adaptation, Title Sequence, Game Adaptation, Dystopian, Detectives/Spies themed Festivals in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025.


FFX is open to all Northern Nevada High School students and has been designed to provide a public screening for student work in an atmosphere of independent competition modeled after established Film Festivals all over the world.


Awards include official FFX  Finalist Certificates, trophies/plaques, memorabilia, Trophies for Best Fiction, Best Non-Fiction, and Best in Show, and may include cash* and practical awards (cameras, camera equipment) in certain categories.


The Festival  FFX 2026 will feature a public screening of all Finalists (top three in each category) followed by Awards presentations tentatively in May, 2026 at the Reno Public Market 6-9pm.


*Monetary awards may be in the form of gift cards
